DTC Big Day Out - Sunday 5 June 2011

The club has requested another invitation day of social tennis at Alexander Park - possibly in December and is waiting for a response. Watch this space for confirmation....and if you want to know what the 2011 day was like - read on .....

On Sunday 5th June 2011, DTC members ventured
out of the trees and down the hill for a hit
with our tennis cousins of Menora ...

Needless to say the event was organised with military precision from the outset, with months of meticulous preparation ... and on the day everything fell neatly into place in a slick operation that the Navy Seals would have been proud of.

Our hosts showed us how to play tennis ... we showed them how to drink ... and fall onto a bus!

We played four sets of social tennis with the Alexander Park faithful on their rather lush grass courts, before we gave the resident barman a workout and sat down for some very decent tucker to compliment the rehydration process.

Once again DTC members were tremendous ambassadors for the club and impressed in the way they approached the bar and misbehaved on the day ... we can all be proud when our club displays it’s true character and values!

Our sincere thanks (and apologies!) go to the organisers, staff and helpers at Alexander Park for a most enjoyable Big Day Out ... and also for not recording the scores! (And I guess Lee, members of our own committee and a few crabs deserve a mention too!)

On the way home the wheels on the bus did go round and round ... but very very slowly up Greenmount Hill, which isn’t funny at all when you’re busting for the dunny. Next year (if we’re invited back!), we’ll either book an AMG Mercedes Bus or arrange for ‘restroom breaks’ in Mount Lawley, Maylands, Bassendean, Guildford, Midland and Beenong Road.

OK so we may not be the greatest players but we can party like champions! ... and nobody can say DTC members don’t have positive attitudes ... our glasses are consistently half full!
